Different Dimension Reflection

Reflection was released at the beginning of September this year by Indiana-based indie polish maker Different Dimension as part of the Someday We'll All Be Memories Too collection. Creator Missi describes it as "a bright berry polish loaded with color shifting pigment." The base color is a darker, saturated, cool-toned red with hints of ruby and red-violet, very similar to rich carmine. It's packed with color-shifting shimmers that display a flame-colored shift in the bottle but mostly read as bright ruby within the base, giving the polish an ember-like, lit-from-within glow on the nail. Low light brings out the polish's vampy qualities. It's a classic kind of shimmer look, luxuriously rich and silky-looking with a lucent depth and dimensionality that makes for a showy, light-catching manicure.

Application was rife with the kind of self-fulfilling prophesies that plague pathologically hyper-focused detail junkies like me. Trust me, you don't want to know. Suffice to say that any difficulties I had were of my own making and had very little to do with the native proclivities of the polish itself. Reflection has a very nice formula -- fluid, full-bodied and smooth with a medium-to-thicker viscosity and a plush, velvety, self-leveling glide over the nail. Pigmentation is excellent. You could almost get away with one generous coat, but two thin-to-medium coats are technically better and ensure a more thoroughly uniform opacity. Cleanup is fairly straightforward. There's some pigment travel that's to be expected with a saturated color like this, but by and large it cleans up well. Reflection dries naturally in very good time to a smooth, shiny finish.

Love! The color is so clean and saturated, with the drama and timelessness of a deep red plus a kind of romantic glamor from the gorgeous shimmers, which have that luminous, dimensional, "creme-rinse" kind of silkiness on the nail that to me just looks like money. It's like luxury in a bottle that only gets better on the nail. If you're into glowy reds, this is a beautiful one! Similar to Vapid Lacquer's Fire Starter.
