Cirque Memedom

Memedom was released at the end of April/beginning of May this year by NYC-based indie polish maker Cirque Colors as a limited edition part of the Kawaii collection. It is officially described as "a turquoise blue holographic with a flash of gold," and is constructed similarly to stablemates Vaporwave and Happy Monday, with a holographic base bearing superabundant ultrafine shimmers, here in a pale lemony gold with hints of coppery pink. The base color is a light, cyanic variation of sky blue along the lines of Crayola's venerable sky blue shade, which in ambient light has a certain dusky quality to it. The shimmers create a gleaming, silky swath of pale pinkish gold along the axis of light, giving the polish a striking dimensional look on the nail, lighter in the center and deepening at the sidewalls. In the sun, the base brightens noticeably to more of a true turquoise color and the holographic pigment engenders an arc of bright prismatic sparkle that frames a glistening lick of misty pinkish gold.

Application was lovely. The consistency of Memedom is fluid, light and smooth with a medium viscosity and a silky, self-leveling slip over the nail. The shimmers distribute evenly and do not show brushstrokes. Pigmentation is very, very good, especially for a lighter color, providing even, opaque coverage in two coats. Cleanup is easy. Memedom dries naturally in very good time to a smooth, slightly flat finish that wants a glossy topcoat to look its best. Topcoat also accentuates the presence and effects of the shimmers.

Photos show two coats of Memedom over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

This is a beautiful polish and my favorite of the collection. As with Vaporwave and Happy Monday, the look is more of a shimmer polish with holographic aspects than the other way around. The abundance of pinkish gold shimmer softens the base color to something along the lines of a pale, dusky Carolina blue. It has an ethereal, slightly subdued sensibility to it that is particularly graceful and elegant, to my mind, and the silky dimensional effect is just exquisite. Really nice!

love,
Liz
