Blush Lacquers Midnight Sleigh Ride

Midnight Sleigh Ride was released in December 2016 by Indiana-based indie polish maker Blush Lacquers as part of the Holo Holo-days collection. Creator Victoria describes it as a blue-toned purple holographic polish, and I agree, although to my eye it's more the other way around, that is to say a purple-toned blue. But to each her own, right? As part of the indigo family it lies between blue and violet on the spectrum and leans closest to an indigo dye color with a strong ultramarine aspect, dark but very rich and vibrant. Abundant ultrafine holographic pigment gives it a glowing purple heart and infinitesimal, dainty sparks of azure in ambient light, and in the sun there's a brilliant, bold linear holographic display with a prominent arc of bright azure edged by mixed prismatic sparkle. 

The consistency of Midnight Sleigh Ride is fluid, dense and smooth with a medium viscosity and a full-bodied, velvety, self-leveling glide over the nail. The Blush Lacquers brush is rounded and particularly slender, and I experienced something of a learning curve working with it. I had a bit of difficulty figuring out how to load the brush with enough polish to cover an entire nail and ended up adding a bit of polish thinner to my bottle for more fluency, whereupon I promptly flooded the cuticle of the next nail. *lol*

Anyway, pigmentation is excellent, almost a one-coater but I ended up using two for most evenly opaque coverage. Cleanup is straightforward. There's a skosh of pigment travel and trace staining but by and large it cleans up nicely -- luckily for me! Midnight Sleigh Ride dries naturally in very good time to a slightly flat finish that wants a nice topcoat to look its best. Topcoat does not affect the holographic properties of the polish in any way.

The color comes off as very blue in my photos -- in person, there's a bit more violet in play. I love it so much! It combines the traditional elegance and grace of a dark blue with the kind of cosmic energy and free-spirited qualities of a purple. In spite of being as dark as it is, it really just blooms on the nail. Gorgeous!
