Girly Bits One Is Never Un Oeuf

One Is Never Un Oeuf was released in November 2016 by Canadian indie polish maker Girly Bits as a limited edition polish created for The Indie Shop event in Torrance CA. Officially described as "a saturated turquoise holo with gold and teal shimmer," the base color is a vibrant medium-dark blue-green with aspects of cerulean and teal, a shade along the lines of a deep Pacific blue. Abundant metallic shimmers give it an especially twinkly quality in ambient light, with a glistening, semi-metallic look to the finish. The color brightens even more in the sun, where there's a brilliant linear holographic display, slightly dispersed by the shimmers but extra sparkly because of them, predominated by slendeer arcs of azure and spring green edged by mixed prismatic sparks.

Application was terrific! The consistency of One Is Never Un Oeuf is fluid, light and smooth with a medium viscosity and a fluent, easy, self-leveling slip over the nail that went on best for me in medium coats from a well-loaded brush. Pigmentation is very good. Two coats nets completely even, opaque coverage. Cleanup is surprisingly trouble free, with very little pigment travel or trace staining. One Is Never Un Oeuf dries naturally in very good time to a smooth, shiny finish. Topcoat does not in any way inhibit the polish's holographic properties.

There are loads of blue-green and teal holos out there, but this one has a super sparkly, twinkling quality from its shimmer components that sets it apart. To me, it is at least as much if not more about the brilliant, saturated color as it is the holographic effects, with a flashy, semi-metallic look that showcases the color beautifully and gives the polish a certain bold, assertive, almost fiesty character.
