SuperChic Lacquer Cherub

Cherub was released this month by California-based indie polish maker SuperChic Lacquer as part of the Cupid's Bow collection. It joins SuperChic's Superholo line of polishes, "formulated with fierce color depth and intense linear holographic effects." Officially described as cherry red, the color is a brilliant, saturated medium scarlet, a warm-toned hue with aspects of vermilion, red-orange and tomato. Almost neon-like in intensity, it's a perfect summertime red -- all the more so as it is powerfully holographic. The holo pigment in this polish illuminates the color brilliantly, it absolutely glows on the nail! Vivid, dimensionalizing hues of crimson, orange-red and marachino nuance the base color in ambient light, and direct sun generates a sparkling linear holographic flare predominated by an arc of glowing violet edged by bright red and orange, shading to vermilion at the sidewalls.

Application was fantastic. The consistency of Cherub is fluid, light and smooth with a medium viscosity and a luxurious, silky, self-leveling glide over the nail -- a wonderful, eminently-paintable formula. Pigmentation is outstanding, delivering completely even opacity and full bottle color in one coat, although I think the look has more depth and the holographic effects more oomph with two coats. Cleanup is a bear, partially due to pigment travel and bit of residual staining but also because the silvery holo particles like to stick to the nail after the color is removed, leaving a little silver corona to the cleaned areas that takes extra care and effort to remove. Luckily the formula is so user-friendly that I'm sure most folks will be able to produce a much cleaner manicure than I did (no hill for a climber). Cherub dries naturally in very good time to a smooth, flat finish that wants a nice topcoat to look its best. Topcoat actually serves to enliven the holographic effects IMO.

Photos show two coats of Cherub over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

Awesome!

You may be wondering how Cherub compares to SuperChic's Realm of Erotica, the brilliant, fan-favorite red from the 2015 Dreamology collection. The tones are entirely different. Realm of Erotica is a cool-toned, blue-based red, a crimson. Cherub is a warm-toned, more yellow-based red, a scarlet, with noticeable red-orange aspects. It's lighter and brighter than Realm of Erotica, the way a neon version of a color is lighter and brighter, with a slightly flourescent quality.

Pick the tone that suits you best or get them both -- they're not dupes and they're both fabulous, top quality holos in SuperChic's inimitable Superholo style.

love,
Liz
