Contrary Polish These Streets Will Make You Feel Brand New

These Streets Will Make You Feel Brand New was created by Carrie of Missouri-based indie polish maker Contrary Polish for Polish Con April 2017 and released as part of The Road to Polish Con series earlier this month. Described as "a very dark grey with holo flakes and a strong flash of copper," the base color is a deep, achromatic Davy's grey that is warmed to a dusky seal brown by abundant, stealthy ultrafine copper shimmers and densely stippled with silvery holographic microflakes. In the sun, the holographic microflakes blanket the polish with scattered prismatic sparkle, and the shimmers are visible as delicate, gleaming coppery sparks along the axis of light.

Application was primo! The consistency of These Streets Will Make You Feel Brand New is fluid, light and smooth with a medium viscosity and a very even, mobile, self-leveling slip over the nail that for all practical purposes behaves like it actually wants you to have a perfect manicure. It likes to go on in thin to medium coats and is a delight to finesse with Contrary's flattened-style brush. Pigmentation is excellent. One coat nets evenly opaque coverage, and a second, full, rich bottle color. Cleanup is easy. These Streets Will Make You Feel Brand New dries naturally in good time to a silky smooth, ever-so-slightly flat finish that I think looks best with a glossy topcoat.

Photos show two coats of These Streets Will Make You Feel Brand New over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

The name of this polish comes from the lyrics of Alicia Keys' 2009 song "Empire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down."

Wow, this polish really surprised me! It's got a sophisticated, self-contained air that's also a tiny bit edgy but very accessible and obliging, and the flecky holographic microflakes give it lots of pretty sparkle in the sun, where it is absolutely beautiful. I love the name, even if it is a bit long --  it suits the polish and ties it to the song, which has a sense of longing and nostalgia to it that I love and gives me goosebumps when I listen to it.

Wonderful polish!

love,
Liz
