KBShimmer Caught On Tape

Like Cubicle Pusher, Caught On Tape was released earlier this month by Indiana-based indie polish maker KBShimmer as part of the Office Space collection. This "pale mauve," as creator Christy describes it, immediately incited my exaggerated covet response -- I love ballet-type pinks -- and was my personal must have from the collection. The color is a white-based tint of pale pink with a whisper of lavender that gives it a sophisticated, slightly dusky aspect. On the nail, it very much resembles queen pink from the Plochere Color System.

Application was great for a white-based shade. The consistency of Caught On Tape is fluid, full-bodied and very creamy with a medium viscosity and a plush glide over the nail. Self-leveling properties are very good -- it's one of those polishes that levels out more slowly, as it sets up. Pigmentation is also very good. I experienced a bit of streakiness on the first coat in particularly ridgey areas, but the coverage was mostly smooth and even after the second. Cleanup is easy. Caught On Tape dries naturally in good time to a beautiful glossy finish. Topcoat helpfully serves to further even out any spots that might need it.

Photos show two coats of Caught On Tape over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

This color is beautifully balanced and deliciously creamy. It's not a floral or girly or Easterish sort of pink -- it's much more sophisticated and substantial than that, with a gently subdued quality that is elegant, refined and stylish -- very much a neutral, grown-up sort of pink. Slightly more delicate and feminine than a nude, it still delivers that clean, classic, well-groomed look that you want in an office-friendly shade. My new favorite pale pink, I think that it has all the makings of a go-to!

love,
Liz
