Il Était Un Vernis Offstage

Offstage was released last month by French boutique polish maker Il Était Un Vernis as part of the So Cabaret collection. Officially described as "an intense pine green" soft holographic polish, the color is an exceptionally deep variation of pine that resembles Brunswick green in appearance. It is almost dark and inscrutable enough to have the feel of a blackened hue, but displays the barest kiss of grey in the bottle when examined in the sun and retains its essential greenness on the nail even in low light. Beautifully rendered in Il Était Un Vernis' signature velvety holographic style, it has a smooth, dense, creamy quality in bright ambient light, dusted with delicate sparkle from abundant flecks of holographic pigment, which produces a lovely scattered prismatic bloom in direct sun.

Application was splendid. The consistency of Offstage is fluid, creamy and dense with a medium viscosity and a lush, velvety, self-leveling glide over the nail. Pigmentation is excellent. With a generous hand and the proper mojo, I believe this could be a one-coater, but I used two to ensure most even coverage. Cleanup is straightforward, with a touch of pigment travel but very little trace staining. Offstage dries naturally in very good time to a perfect glossy finish. Topcoat does not affect the holographic properties in any way.

Photos show two coats of Offstage over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

I love Bé and Stéphanie's holo style and this fathomless dark green beauty has all the smooth sophistication and elegance that they are known for. Connoisseurs of greens and deep vampy shades take note!

love,

  1. That deepened green is lovely, especially with that holo!

    1. I agree! Is it just me or does this have a certain Victorian quality?
