Emily de Molly Wrong Side of Heaven

Wrong Side of Heaven was released in February 2016 by Australian indie polish maker Emily de Molly as one of six new stand-alone polishes for that month. Creator Hayley describes this one as a true red holo, and I agree. Its appearance ranges from a vivid medium imperial red in lower light to a radiant scarlet in brighter light. It is warmer than any of the red holos I've featured here recently and certainly the warmest and brightest compared to the three other Emily de Molly reds in my collection. Finely milled holographic pigment generates a glowing, transparent arc of violet in ambient light and creates a bright red semi-metallic underlay with a brilliant fiery flash.

Application was wonderful. The consistency of Wrong Side of Heaven is fluid, light and smooth with a medium viscosity that has slightly more body than I usually experience from EdM but the same fluent self-leveling slip over the nail. Pigmentation is excellent. One medium coat will provide evenly opaque coverage, but you'll want two for full bottle color and to make the most of the polish's holographic potential. Cleanup is a little tetchy. There's pigment travel, as you would expect from a well-pigmented red, and a touch of trace staining. Wrong Side of Heaven dries naturally in very good time to a beautiful glossy finish. Topcoat does not appear to inhibit the holographic properties in any way.

Photos show two coats of Wrong Side of Heaven over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

  1. I am weak at the knees! And it is ridiculous - it's not like I am short of beautiful red holo polish! This one sure looks special, though. Very beautiful!

    1. It's like music soothing the savage beast, only with red polish... *lol* Just kidding! This one is remarkably well balanced, appearing slightly cooler in low light and a true scarlet in bright, direct light. It's incredibly saturated and bold. Plus it has that holographic dimensionality. You could do worse things with your money, my dear!
