A-England In Robe and Crown

In Robe and Crown was released at the end of October this year by British boutique polish maker A-England as part of the Tennyson's Romance collection. Described on the website as a dark garnet holo, the color here is a very dark purplish red, a deep (but not blackened) variation of wine with warming aspects of cordovan and burnt umber. It has a fathomless quality on the nail, but is not quite so dark as to appear black in low light. Direct sun reveals the full richness of the color and generates a stunning holographic bloom, a radiant mist of scattered sparks in pale gold, glowing violet and bright red mixed with other prismatic colors that travels up and down the nail with the light.

Application was wonderful. The consistency of In Robe and Crown is fluid, smooth and dense with a medium viscosity and a luxe, velvety, self-leveling glide over the nail. Pigmentation is outstanding, delivering completely even opacity and full bottle color in only one medium coat, although I used two for this manicure. Cleanup was much easier than I expected, with a touch of pigment travel but almost no trace staining. In Robe and Crown dries naturally in very good time to a beautiful glossy finish.

Photos show two coats of In Robe and Crown over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

Vampy and sumptuous, this is your quintessential deep wine polish with A-England's signature holographic glow. It is much darker than my preferred medium tones, but I really like the formality of it. It has a very chic, high-end feel and the luxurious, rich, velvety color has me twirling my fingers all over the place!

love,
Liz
