Picture Polish Sisters

Sisters was released last month by Australian boutique polish maker Picture Polish (PP) as one of six new Collaboration shades. It was designed by Emiline of Nail Polish Society, and named both in tribute to her familial sisters and, on a broader scale, by way of celebrating relationships between women that enrich our lives and unite, empower and fulfill us.

Emiline describes this polish as a "a mix of purple, brown, and gray. A purpleish taupe." It's a scattered holo in PP's signature style using variously-sized holographic microflakes and particles, giving the polish that familiar silver-flecked visual texture. The color is in the same family as mauve taupe and rose taupe, but lighter and dustier, with less purple and more grey, a handsome cool-toned neutral shade. The holographic properties generate a dimensional golden bloom with rosy highlights and extra prismatic sparkle in the sun.

Application was top notch. The consistency of Sisters is fluid, creamy and dense with a medium viscosity and a velvety, self-leveling glide over the nail. It goes right where you put it and stays there, and is easy to finesse with PP's flattened flexible brush. Pigmentation is very good, delivering evenly opaque coverage and full bottle color in two coats. Cleanup is easy. Sisters dries naturally in very good time to a silky smooth finish. Topcoat does not inhibit the holographic properties in any way.

Photos show two coats of Sisters over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite. Apologies for the extreme pinkage!

Sisters has a certain agile, weightless quality, a kind of nimble surety that instills confidence and satisfaction. I like it very much. On the nail it is both elegant and comfortable, with a more complex character than the average neutral. You can rely on it to reflect well upon your aesthetic, and who doesn't appreciate a polish that does that?

love,
Liz
