Picture Polish Mossy

Like Sisters, Mossy was released last month by Australian boutique polish maker Picture Polish (PP) as one of six new Collaboration shades. This one was designed and created in collaboration with Russian Instagrammer Sasshhaaaa. It's one of PP's scattered jelly holos, this time in a -- surprise! -- dark moss green. Swampy and somewhat inscrutable in low light, the color is a rich deep olivine  with a mysterious, slightly sinister, middle-of-an-ancient-forest kind of vibe. It's like a darker version of one of my all-time favorite China Glaze polishes, It's Alive, only with holographic microflakes instead of glitter. The holographic microflakes give it a gently stippled visual texture with a golden glistening effect in ambient light that lights up with bright prismatic sparks, most notably spring green, orange and azure, in direct sun.

Application was wonderful -- Mossy has an impeccable formula. The consistency is fluid, dense and very smooth with a thin-to-medium viscosity and a buttery, self-leveling glide over the nail. Pigmentation is very good. A bit of unevenness to the first coat fills out beautifully to completely even opaque coverage with the second. Cleanup is easy, a touch of pigment travel but no residual staining to speak of. Mossy dries naturally in very good time to a smooth, shiny finish.

Photos show two coats of Mossy over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

If you love darker shades for your nails, this is a great deep olivine with exceptionally rich color that feels especially perfect for fall. Alexandra (the woman behind Sasshhaaaa) created an absolutely sumptuous look with this polish by stamping over it with a slightly lighter metallic yellow-green hue in a leafy pattern -- see it here. How gorgeous is that, eh? Swoon!

It's uncommon to come across a dark yellow-green that isn't muddy. This one is velvety and opulent, just perfect. I got mine from Color4Nails in the US. You can find a list of Picture Perfect distributors worldwide here.
