Girly Bits Personal Hotspot

Like Anniversary Crashers, Personal Hotspot was released in August this year by Canadian indie polish maker Girly Bits as part of the What Really Happened in Vegas 2016 collection, a series of polishes commemorating various extracurricular events at this year's CosmoProf trade show. The name of this polish was inspired by an attending blogger who was detained for manual frisking at McCarran International Airport because she set off TSA's personal scanner, not once but twice!

Creator Pam describes Personal Hotspot as "a bright raspberry pink base filled with a sparkling variety of fuchsia holo glitter." The overall color of this full-coverage microglitterbomb is a showy deep magenta with aspects of red-violet and raspberry, something along the lines of magenta dye, aka rich magenta. There's a certain fresh quality to it that I find unusual for this shade, due in part to the dazzling sparkle of the highly-reflective metallic fuchsia microglitters, which read mostly as shocking pink through the base. The interesting on-tone visual texture of the glitters creates depth, liveliness and a sense of drama, all of which add to the polish's spirited character. Direct sun generates a lush blanket of brilliant prismatic sparkle.

Application was great! The consistency of Personal Hotspot is fluid, light and smoother than I expected, with a medium viscosity and a fluent, even, self-leveling glide over the nail. For a full-coverage microglitter, it is particularly easy to manipulate with Girly Bits' flattened, flexible brush. Two coats renders evenly opaque coverage. I did my cleanup as I went along, while the polish was wet, and had no problem removing extraneous glitters. Personal Hotspot dries naturally in very good time to a sandy-textured finish. I used a layer of gel-effect topcoat followed by a layer of Seche Vite for a smooth, glossy look.

Photos show two coats of Personal Hotspot over treatment and basecoat topped with a layer of Pretty Serious Plump Up the Volume topcoat and one coat of Seche Vite.

I love this kind of deep purpley-pink color, and in this polish we have a fabulously sparkly version of it.  In certain lights, that sparkle reads as bright red in addition to shocking pink, which amps up the drama -- very show-girl-esque!

Pam's full-coverage microglitters are only slightly more time-consuming than cremes to remove with regular polish remover. Not difficult at all. Win!

love,
Liz

  1. What's the removal like for this one, Liz? I bought some of the Sequins collection and found them to be really easy to remove for glitters. Is this one the same? Thanks!

    1. It takes more effort than a creme, but does come off completely with regular polish remover. You won't have any trouble -- enjoy your microglitter!
