Powder Perfect Whataboutery

Whataboutery was released in November 2015 by Australian indie polish maker Powder Perfect as part of the Quest for Paradise II collection. If you're wondering, as I did, what the name means, here's the definition according to Wiktionary: protesting at hypocrisy; responding to criticism by accusing one's opponent of similar or worse faults. Quite apt for the political climate in the US these days, eh? Or really, any day, now that I think about it....

Well, let us leave such shit-shuffling to the shit-shufflers and contemplate this fabulous fluorescent pink polish! Whataboutery is a stunning creamy bright pink with a certain rosy aspect to its pinkness that adds a wash of endearment to the audacity of the color. It actually reminds me very much of a French pink, if neons can be so qualified, nicely balanced on the sweet spot between cool and warm in natural light, with just enough neon boost to give it that electric, glow-in-the-dark character so beloved by neon enthusiasts.

Application was great! The consistency of Whataboutery is fluid, full-bodied and very creamy with a medium-to-thick viscosity and a lush, velvety glide over the nail. It went on most easily for me in medium coats from a well-loaded brush, but in hindsight I wish I'd tried thinner coats simply because I think they make for a neater overall look (and will certainly wear better). Self-leveling properties are very good. Pigmentation is excellent, delivering even opacity in two coats for smooth, regular nail beds. My ubiquitous ridges were still slightly apparent at two, so I added a third. Cleanup is easy and straightforward with a tiny bit of pigment travel. Whataboutery dries naturally in good time to a smooth, slightly flat finish that loves a glossy topcoat to look its best.

Photos show three coats of Whataboutery over KBShimmer Love You Strong Time treatment and Pretty Serious All Your Base basecoat with a generous topcoat of Seche Vite. Pardon the random sparkly bits, they are refugees from the removal of yesterday's manicure.

In person, the color of Whataboutery ranges to slightly warmer than my photos show, especially in low light and shade where the neon pigment takes the fore, and under incandescent light as well. While not eye-searing like some of the watermelony, punchy sort of neon pinks that I've experienced, it is still plenty bright enough to blow your hair back. I love how flirty it is! And sweet. Butter wouldn't melt in its mouth.

I bet you could get away with almost anything wearing this polish!

xo,
Liz
