Octopus Party Nail Lacquer Will You Bury Me?

Will You Bury Me was released by Connecticut-based indie polish maker Octopus Party Nail Lacquer (OPNL) as part of the Fall 2015 collection at the end of October. This is a dark brown shimmer polish. The jelly base color looks to be a deep, relatively cool-toned umbery kind of brown. Creator Dave describes it as chocolate, and I've seen it referred to as as a Van Dyke brown and a tobacco as well. It is brighten and warmed by abundant fine golden shimmers, which produce a striking golden-toned sheen in the sun and transform the color to something along the lines of field drab, a dark sandy brown that is one of the US Army's official camo colors.

I asked my resident militaria expert whether it looked like a military sort of color to him, and after a moment's contemplation he replied that it reminded him of certain 1950s US Army personnel vehicles, manufactured and painted in Detroit, that while green and not brown had a lustrous quality or pearliness to their finish that is similar to what he saw in the polish. You never know what you'll learn when you ask a military historian about color. But he's right about one thing -- the gold shimmers in Will You Bury Me do produce a striking chatoyant effect, a burnished glow like you see in tiger's eye gemstones, as they refract light through the base.

Application was lovely. The consistency of Will You Bury Me is fluid, smooth and dense with a medium viscosity and an even, self-leveling glide over the nail. Pigmentation is very good. A skosh of jelly-ish translucence to the formula requires two coats for fully opaque coverage. Cleanup is easy and straightforward, with no pigment travel or trace staining at all. Will You Bury Me dries naturally in very good time to a beautiful glossy finish.

Photos show two coats of Will You Bury Me over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite. I wish that I'd been more careful with my topcoat application -- I didn't even notice the corona of untopcoated polish at the cuticle of my pinky nail until I began editing the photos.

This is a deeply cool brown polish. Besides the amazing golden sheen, it has the endearing quality of never looking black, even in very low light. I love that it's cool-toned brown, which really makes the gold pop and reminds me of a venerable, well-polished piece of walnut. It has a sophisticated, urbane aspect on the nail, glossy and elegant.

Very handsome indeed!

love,
Liz
