SuperChic Lacquer Realm of Erotica

Like yesterday's REM, Realm of Erotica was released at the end of September this year by California-based indie polish maker SuperChic Lacquer as part of the Dreamology collection, a series of bright, saturated linear holographic polishes with one-coat coverage. Realm of Erotica is a brilliant medium-toned crimson with strong overtones of ruby and cerise. The holographic effects are particularly dynamic in this polish and can be seen in almost all circumstances, nuancing the crimson with ethereal, glowing hues of red-violet and rose. The cool influences give it a certain rosy pink aspect, but this is a true red. Direct sun generates a striking prismatic display with a central band of near-neon blue-violet edged by a shifting swath of bright pinpoint sparks in red, orange and yellow, the whole floating over a central blaze of glittering red. There's a shiny, semi-metallic quality to the finish of this polish that reminds me of Christmas and bright red ribbons. 

Application was wonderful. The consistency of Realm of Erotica is slightly more fluid than its stablemate REM, but still with a very well balanced viscosity for painting. It has a lush, creamy glide over the nail and very good self-leveling properties. With both of these polishes, I found that a well-loaded brush and a light touch made for smoothest application, as they both have a bit of pull to them. Pigmentation is outstanding with evenly opaque one-coat coverage. I added a second to better camouflage my nail ridges, but I do suggest two coats even for those with irregularity-free nail beds to obtain richest depth of color as well as maximize the holographic properties. Cleanup was fairly straightforward, with some pigment travel but only a hint of trace staining -- however, you don't want to be flooding your cuticles or sidewalls with this red. Realm of Erotica dries naturally in very good time to a smooth, slightly flat finish that really comes alive with a glossy topcoat. I did not find that topcoat inhibited the holographic effects, although it does give them a smoother, more liquid look and contributes to the semi-metallic look of the finish.

Flashy, intensely colorful and dazzling with its radiant holo effects, Realm of Erotica is an eminently festive red. Wear it all year round and especially during the holidays -- it's a great red for the season, guaranteed to catch everyone's eye. 

Fuzzy blissed out over this polish. "Is there a more perfect color for nails than red?" I had to pause and think about all the colors that polish enthusiasts have to choose from... nowadays, you can find any color that you have a hankering for, just about, and if you can't find it then you can surely find someone who'll make it for you. Red is certainly awesome and classic, but you can't beat variety with a stick. Wear all the colors!
