A-England Spirit of the Moors

Spirit of the Moors was released towards the end of September by British bijoux polish maker A-England as part of the To Emily Bronte collection, inspired by the 1847 novel Wuthering Heights. The Yorkshire Moors are the setting for all of the action in Wuthering Heights, and play a significant role in the story. With their tempestuous weather and startling expansive beauty, they are a both a menace and a haven. For Catherine and Heathcliff, they represent a supernatural, liberating, limitless escape from the cloistered, prison-like atmosphere of Wuthering Heights. For them, ultimate freedom is associated with wandering on the moors.

It is this aspect that Adina captures so beautifully in Spirit of the Moors. It is a medium-toned bold ultramarine or dark sapphire blue scattered holographic polish. The vibrant color is exhilarating and fresh, and brings to mind the unfathomable depth of a cloudless blue sky. Bearing abundant medium-sized holographic particles, it possesses an exuberant shimmering dimensionality that compliments the color perfectly and can be seen in almost all circumstances. In direct sun, a scattered swath of bright sparks in hues of indigo, sky blue, aqua and bright green lights up the nail, and in low light it has a gorgeous lit-from-within look, with a glowing central blaze of sapphire shading to a deep near-indigo at the sidewalls.

Application was wonderful. The consistency of Spirit of the Moors is fluid, light and buttery smooth with an easy glide over the nail and excellent self-leveling properties. It is amenable to thin or thicker coats and is easily manipulated with A-England's round flexible brush. Pigmentation is very good with full, even, opaque coverage in two coats. I used three for this manicure, ostensibly to achieve the most vibrant color and depth possible, but to be honest I was just enjoying the gorgeous color and profound satisfaction that accompanies working with a beautifully formulated polish too much to want to stop after two. Cleanup was easy and straightforward with no pigment travel or residual staining. Spirit of the Moors dries naturally in very good time to a silky smooth, satiny finish that wants a nice topcoat to look its best.

Photos show three coats of Spirit of the Moors over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

The beauty of this polish lies in the profound vitality of that blue. The energy it has on the nail is stunning, you almost feel as if sparks should be flying off the tips of your fingers. It's the exhilaration of being fully present in nature's glory, wherever that may be. For Heathcliff and Catherine, that place was the Yorkshire moors.
