SpaRitual Foxy Lady

Time for another lacquer from the big box o' polish sent to me not long ago by my fellow polish enthusiast and npbff, Marisa of Tiny Twinklings! Today's feature is Foxy Lady from luxury boutique brand SpaRitual. Marisa pointed out that Foxy Lady sports SpaRitual's now retired black label, thus possessing the "discontinued" status that attracts vintage and discontinued polish collectors (didn't know that was a thing, did you?).

Foxy Lady is a medium-dark well-pigmented red violet bearing infinitesimal pink particulate shimmers. It's got a touch of that old school shimmer vibe, with the finely-milled shimmers giving the polish a hint of the frosty quality that characterized those polishes, but it's only a hint and mostly noticeable only in direct sun, where they also produce a pretty scintillating sparkle. Otherwise they lend their shimmery pinkness to rounding out the red violet of the base into a beautiful, radiant berried garnet color, and provide depth and dimensionality to the look of the polish on the nail. The brighter the lighting, the greater the influence of the shimmers and the brighter and rosier the color, but in almost all circumstances Foxy Lady has a lovely satiny glow, a kind of candlelit sheen, with an ephemeral pink flash that's very becoming indeed.

Application was fantastic. Despite its age, the formula of Foxy Lady was in stellar condition. The consistency is fully fluid, smooth and dense with a bit of pull to it and a velvety glide over the nail. Self-leveling properties are excellent as is the pigmentation, with wearably opaque coverage and full bottle color in only one coat. I used two coats for this manicure, and decided that the second did add some extra depth, but it did not alter the color. Cleanup was fairly straightforward, with a modicum of pigment travel but no residual staining. Foxy Lady dries naturally in average time to a smooth shiny finish. Topcoat seemed to intensify the presence of the shimmers.

Photos show two coats of Foxy Lady over treatment and basecoat with a bubbly topcoat of Seche Vite.

So pretty and flattering on the nail! Despite a slightly old fashioned sensibility, the color is classic and feminine with a graceful, glowing, lit-from-within dimensionality giving it a certain formal elegance that is beautiful and iconic. There are plenty of polish enthusiasts who love this kind of shimmer above all others, and looking at this beauty I can see how easily it would lend itself to the development of an aesthetic with such a look at its center.

love,
Liz
