Smitten Polish Pink Elephant

Pink Elephant was released by indie polish maker Smitten Polish as an exclusive shade for Swedish indie polish seller Edgy Polish in April this year. You might recall the gorgeous CrowsToes' Edgy Polish exclusive, An Edgy Ocean Dream, that I reviewed for a guest post at tiny twinklings. Ordering that one was such a great experience that when Edgy sent me birthday greetings with an accompanying discount code, I decided to take advantage of it and procure a few other Edgy Polish exclusives. Such as Pink Elephant!

Described by Edgy Polish proprietor Katarina as a "pastel neon coral pink nail polish with holographic micro glitter," to me this is a medium-light delicate coral pink with raspberry overtones and coral shading around the edges. It's a full-coverage microglitterbomb, and who does microglitterbombs better than Noelie? Nobody, that's who. In the bottle, this polish looked to have a rather bricky orange-pink base that seemed nothing like the pretty pink in Katarina's swatches and I almost thought when I got it that perhaps I'd received a bottle of Penny Dreadful by mistake. But I should have had more faith in Noelie's skills. It's absolutely packed with silver holographic microglitters, which blend perfectly with the base to produce a lovely, delicate warm pink on the nail. In indirect light and shade, you can see that the glitters speckling the surface of the polish are silver while the glitters beneath provide abundant visual interest by sparkling in varying shades of bright pink according to their depth. In sun, whoa! A bazillion bright sparks in prismatic colors explode from the twinkling coral pink base, which has a luxe, sophisticated warmth that makes me think of the Côte d'Azur for some reason. It just seems totally suited for the slender tanned fingers of some topless beauty sunning on the French Riviera.

Might that be you, perchance? ;)

Application was great, even though I got a late start this morning and painted with the hot sun streaming down on me through the skylight. Never do that! The consistency of Pink Elephant is fluffy with microglitters but quite fluid and easy to manipulate with Smitten's flattened flexible brush. It has a creamy flow over the nail and excellent self-leveling properties. Pigmentation is also excellent, with near opacity in one coat and completely even opaque coverage in two. Cleanup is best done as you go along to avoid microglitter stickiness once the polish dries. The microglitters do disperse across the nail environs at the touch of acetone, so expect to see some rogue silvery bits here and there in the photos. Pink Elephant dries naturally in very good time to a matte, gently-textured finish that is easily smoothed with a glossy topcoat.

Photos show two coats of Pink Elephant over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite. The multi-colored nature of the holo microglitters in the sun all but escaped my attempts to capture it, unfortunately. Just know that there is much more of this in person than my pictures show.

Fabulous! I wish I could have captured the true colorful nature of that rainbow sparkle! You can see it a little better in the photos of this review on the Danish blog Rainbowify Me (fitting, no?). As you'll note in that same post, there is a similarly-composed neon green sister to Pink Elephant called Kiwi Colada that's also an Edgy exclusive, for those of you who love a neon green for summer.

I have nothing like this in my collection, nor have I seen anything like it amidst the summer offerings released so far this year in the US except Alloy Matey! and its fraternal twin Sun and Games from KBShimmer. Some polishes are worth the extra postage from Sweden! Katarina's customer service is second to none and delivery time is quicker than you might think, about a week. Not that I can afford to make a habit of ordering from Edgy Polish, but I wish I could.

love,
Liz
