OPI Live Love Carnaval

Live Love Carnaval was released by OPI as part of the Brazil collection for spring/summer 2014. It is a strong medium-light creamy coral with aspirations to neon that's nicely balanced between orange and pink, sort of a hot watermelon as one reviewer called it. This pretty little chameleon has a dramatic shift in tone between shade and sun, pulling orange in the shade and pink in the sun. Either way, it's such a high-spirited, feminine, punchy shade that you can't suppress an interior smile when you catch a glimpse of it from the corner of your eye and a full-faced, open-mouthed grin when you study it at arm's length. It's a charmer!

Application was lovely. The consistency of Live Love Carnaval is fluid, light and very creamy with a nice body to it and an easy, self-leveling flow over the nail. Pigmentation is very good with hints of streakiness and dark patches on the first coat that even out beautifully for fully opaque coverage in two coats. I used three coats for this manicure, the third to cover a few minor sins of the second and to ensure the non-appearance of my nail ridges. Cleanup is fairly straightforward with some pigment travel but no residual staining. Live Love Carnaval dries naturally in average time to a shade that's a hair more vivid/less milky than bottle color and a smooth somewhat flat finish. A glossy topcoat is quite flattering to the color and the look.

Photos show two coats of Live Love Carnaval over treatment and basecoat with a slightly bubbly topcoat of Seche Vite.

This is so vivacious and fun and summery! It's a wonderful kicky coral that's perfect for those who may not want to venture into neon territory but still want something that's nice and bright. Live Love Carnaval is closer to neon with a bit more orange in it than my usual coral pink favorites like Deborah Lippmann's Daytripper and Butter London's Cakehole, but all three share the same epic jubilance of character that thrills the coral lover's heart.

love,
Liz
