Polish My Life Coral Fedora

Coral Fedora was released by Brooklyn NY-based indie polish maker Polish My Life as part of the All Things Vintage collection for spring 2015 at the beginning of March this year. This is a light, slightly bleached-looking coral pink creme, not a neon but pointing in that direction. It's like Shaneka, the owner and creative force behind Polish My Life, took a creamy pale pepto pink and added orange drop by drop to create the coral she wanted -- the color gives the impression of being meticulously calibrated. There's a subtle silvery shimmer visible in the bottle that doesn't translate directly to the polish on the nail, but I suspect it works to add luster and accentuate the luminous quality that this polish possesses. I'm not sure how well Coral Fedora suits my pinkage but it really doesn't matter because I can't help but love this gorgeous, creamy Floridian shade with its vintage Miami Beach vibe. Every time I look at it it seems a little different, very pepto from some angles but then a near neon pastel tangerine or melon from others, sometimes very soft and others very bright. I can't stop looking at my nails. Fetching little chameleon! 

Application was quite lovely. I've read many praises of the formula quality of this indie brand and am delighted to say that I absolutely concur. The consistency of Coral Fedora is fluid and exquisitely creamy with an eminently paintable viscosity and a buttery glide over the nail. This being a whitened color I'd tempered my expectations somewhat and it exceeded them with room to spare. It is a tad streaky on the first coat as almost every polish with a lot of white in it is. But it's not chalky, difficult to work with,  overly sheer or even, really, all that streak-prone. It's the sort of polish that shows streaks as dark areas, and mine were almost completely gone after the second coat. I expect that those with steadier hands and a more even touch than me would be able to finesse completely even opaque coverage out of two coats, but I needed a third. The polish is actually very well pigmented with outstanding self-leveling properties, rare for a whitened color, and it takes to the nail like a duck to water. Cleanup was easy and straightforward with a little bit of pigment travel but no residual staining. Coral Fedora dries naturally in good time to a beautiful glossy finish. Nice!

If you've been wondering about the bulging deformity of the ring finger nail on my Cinderella hand (my right), I have a tear in the side of that nail that I've been patching for a while now waiting for it to grow out. Such are my patching skills... ha!

To me, this coral is deliciously beachy. We used to spend three weeks of every summer during my childhood visiting with my mother's side of the family in central Florida, and this polish must be drawing on on happy memories of those times because it makes me smile every time I look at it. We would drive to the coast often during those vacations, and there would always be a contest in the car amongst us kids as to who could smell the ocean first. When I look at this polish, I can almost smell the ocean and feel that soft, salty air coming off the water.

So even if I suspect that it might not be the best match for my skin tone, I still love it. A lot! And with that you'll have to excuse me because I feel the need to go pick some other Polish My Life colors to try....
