Femme Fatale Ruby Hare

Ruby Hare is the last of the special holos by Aussie indie polish maker Femme Fatale that I bought during my recent spree at polish etailer Color4Nails. This is a medium-dark fuchsia berry colored linear holo bearing what I believe are ultrafine golden shimmers that send out a radiant copper flash through the pinkish ruby tinted base. Like the other complex holos from Femme Fatale, this polish is something of a chameleon, ranging in looks from deep burgundy to coppery mauve depending upon lighting. The holographic pigments produce a strong linear display even in low light. Violet and blue seem to dominate the colors of the prismatic flare, which nuance the fuchsia berry color to shades of red-violet and plum while producing a striking contrast against the ever present copper flash.

Application was primo. Ruby Hare has a fluid, smooth, dense consistency with a perfect viscosity for easily controlled painting and a wonderful self-leveling flow over the nail. Pigmentation is excellent; opaque coverage can be achieved with one medium coat. I used two to ensure richest possible depth of color for the photos. What little cleanup I had to do was quick and easy. Ruby Hare dries naturally in good time a smooth shiny finish.

Photos show two coats of Ruby Hare over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite. No bubbles, hooray! Unfortunately, we had deeply overcast skies today here so I wasn't able to get any direct sun pics, but the holographic display is so responsive it is easily noticed even in the relatively dim lighting of a rainy day.

The rich, opulent combination of colors in this polish is just stunning. As you can see, the prismatic holo pigments give the polish a kind of magical dustiness, simultaneously throwing out rainbow sparks of color. It's just exactly the kind of complex construction that I would expect from this amazing Australian polish maker.

Sophie, the owner and creative force behind Femme Fatale, is just a genius holo formulator. Her ability to combine holo pigments with base tints and shimmers is unsurpassed in my collection, and I'd be remiss if I didn't urge you to try some of her holos yourself at the soonest opportunity. I'm quite pleased with myself for giving in to some masterful enabling by Very Emily, check out her post that prompted my Femme Fatale splurge here.

love,
Liz

    1. Hi Melissa! Yes, isn't Ruby Hare wonderful? And I love the name too, for some reason. I've had such a good time with these Femme Fatales that I went back to Color4Nails and got two more, one of them a glitter jelly. Can't wait to try them!
