Nire's Desire Dirty Little Secret

Erin, the owner and creative force behind indie polish maker Nire's Desire, generously included a sample mini polish with my recent order of Transatlantic. It was unlabeled, but after studying the polishes available in her etsy store I believe this little cutie is called Dirty Little Secret. Erin describes this polish as a "dusty purple with a scattering of holo sparkles." I like the description from Ida Nails It: a "dusky plum creme with scattered holo." The color is complex. It's a shimmering medium-toned brownish plum scattered holo with pink overtones and a brilliant coppery flash that gives it a slightly metallic look.

Application was lovely, even with the tiny bottle and brush. Like Transatlantic, the consistency is fluid, creamy and dense with smooth even flow over the nail. Pigmentation is excellent with near one-coat coverage. I used two coats to ensure complete opacity and full rich color and almost added a third to see if it would provide some ridge camo, but it wasn't warranted otherwise so I stopped at two. In retrospect, this polish is so easy to use that I wish I had done that extra coat and next time I will. CAMO ALL THE RIDGES! Cleanup is easy and straightforward as it is with most holos. Dirty Little Secret dries naturally in very good time to a smooth satiny finish that takes well to topcoat.

Photos show two coats of Dirty Little Secret over Seche Rebuild treatment and Butter London Nail Foundation basecoat with a topcoat of HK Girl.

Dirty Little Secret is a very grown up, sophisticated scattered holo. The rich combination of chestnut and purple makes for a very refined, urbane neutral. With it's overt coppery flash, it would make a lovely complementary companion to mixed metals as well as colors like blue, purple or green. And the holographic pigments in this polish, while providing the prismatic bloom we all know and love, also have the appearance of sitting on top of the base color, adding a dusty visual texture with an interesting dimensional effect.

While I probably wouldn't have picked Dirty Little Secrets for myself, I was pleasantly surprised with how it turned out on me and I'm very glad to have had the chance to try it. Another beautifully composed and formulated lacquer from Nire's Desire!

love,
Liz
