KBShimmer Maybe Navy

Maybe Navy was released by indie polish maker KBShimmer of Terra Haute, IN as part of Christy's Winter 2013 collection. Christy says, "This deep blue polish is filled with shimmering flakes, that in the light add a purple tone to the polish and sometimes bring a pink shimmer." She did herself proud with this polish.

Maybe Navy is a beautiful shimmer polish that has a dark but bright translucent midnight blue jelly base resplendent with relatively large-sized color-shifting flaky shimmers that glow blue, pink and purple. Seriously, these shimmers are the stuff of polish enthusiasts' dreams! They lend the base a subtle but sweet duochromatic shift from blue to purple in certain lights. I believe that there must be some fine holographic glitters scattered in here too, their twinkling sparks cradled in the luminous deep blue of the base like stars in the night sky.

Application was just lovely. The consistency of Maybe Navy is fluid, smooth and easily controlled. It has a degree of sheerness due to the translucent nature of the jelly base, and must be built to opacity. With the first coat I noticed that most of the glitters and shimmer flakes were depositing at the cuticle and up the center of the nail, but this evened out beautifully with subsequent coats. Two are adequate for coverage and an evenly dispersed blanket of shimmer, but three deliver 100% opacity and an increased layering of the components that results in a richer, more dimensional appearance. Cleanup is straightforward; the shimmer flakes are slightly stubborn but not nearly to the extent of glitter and they do not explode across the skin at the application of acetone. Maybe Navy dries naturally in average to slightly longer than average time to a smooth shiny finish.

Photos show three coats of Maybe Navy over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of HK Girl.

While perhaps similar in composition to Christy's epic Teal Another Tail, Maybe Navy has a totally different look and feel. The amazing shimmers work within the deep blue of the base rather than stand apart from it, and the polish has a magical moonless midnight sky feeling to it. I love it.
