Essie Go Overboard

Go Overboard was released by Essie as part its eponymous Go Overboard trio for spring 2012. Go Overboard was sort of a one-off collection of three new colors, one of which of course was the signature Go Overboard. Described by Essie as a "limitless sea blue," it is an inky saturated cerulean infused with deep sea green, an oceanic color you'd imagine seeing off the coast of the north Atlantic.

Application was a joy. The formula of this polish is awesome! It's consistency is very fluid but dense and creamy and it lays down so eagerly I had to watch myself to keep from overloading the brush.  Pigmentation is excellent, with complete opacity in one coat, although my furrowed nails looked better with two. Nevertheless, Go Overboard has outstanding self-levelling properties and smooth even coverage is guaranteed. Cleanup is problematic only because the highly pigmented formula is prone to staining the nail environs, but a little care and judicious use of acetone or remover takes care of that. Go Overboard dries naturally in very good time to a beautiful glossy finish. Nice!

Photos show two coats of Go Overboard over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite to hasten drying and ward off dents and smudges.

This amazing rich color is a bit of a chameleon. It's a deep teal, with blue and green sharing dominance depending upon lighting and skin tone. And it's dark enough to appear near black from a distance in low light. It's moody and sophisticated and soulful. I like it, I like it very much.

love,
Liz
