Essie Beyond Cozy

Beyond Cozy was released by Essie as part of it's Leading Lady collection for fall 2012. It's a true glitter polish with superabundant very fine gold and silver microglitters in a clear suspension base. The overall effect depends somewhat on lighting circumstances but mostly it has an antiqued silver or champagne appearance with a dense but delicate sparkle from all of the individual glitters. It's very like China Glaze's I'm Not Lion without the holo.

This polish is liquid but has a stiff, dense consistency because of all the glitters in there. I added some polish thinner and went at it with a wing and a prayer as the brush quickly becomes stiff with glitter, which makes finessing the cuticle curve and edges a little trickier than usual. To be honest, there actually wasn't much finesse about my application, with plenty of skin swipage for clean up. Coverage is excellent for a glitter polish with near opacity in one coat and complete opacity in two. I did have to spend a little extra time sweeping up the multiplicity of tiny glitters from my swipage.

Beyond Cozy dries naturally very quickly to a sandy, but not overly rough, textured surface. Photos show two coats over treatment and basecoat with no topcoat. I actually rather like the immediacy of the sandy texture, I think it's quite complementary to the overall look of this polish.

Beyond Cozy has a wonderful dynamic but graceful festiveness to it with a sparkle that reminds me of sun on snow or sun on frost. It's like a Christmas tree tinsel blanket of scintillating sparks. Because they're so fine, the glitters have an air of daintiness to them that is not lost in bling, which I appreciate. The silvery color reminds me very much of white gold, it has that precious and substantial gleaming quality. To me, Beyond Cozy stands out as a winter polish because it is so light and delicate on the nail yet completely appropriate for the season. Very pretty!

I like it very much indeed.

love,
Aunt Liz
