Cirque Cape Liz

Whoa, it's Christmas! To everyone reading this, I wish you peace and healthy cuticles!

Cape Liz was released by Cirque in 2012 as part of its sophomore Objet d'Art collection. Its a delicate creamy desaturated sky blue with grey undertones and beautiful iridescent shardy shimmers that reflect blue, silver, pink and lavender colors depending upon the angle of light. This one had me at the outset because of the name, but you could call it Dingleberry and I'd still love the daylights out of it. It's a shade that is simultaneously corporeal and ethereal, tempestuous and gentle, solemn and soothing.

The formula for Cape Liz was liquid but somewhat thick in consistency, with a sort of fluffiness to it that thins out and disappears into the dry down. It is sheer but not streaky on the first coat and quickly builds in opacity and depth of color with subsequent coats. Despite the slightly bulky initial consistency it applies easily, but does tend to settle into and show any imperfections in the nail plate as it sets. Cape Liz dries naturally in very good time to a flat finish that wants a topcoat to awaken the shimmers and best showcase the polish and its components.

Photos, taken in the golden light of early morning, show two coats of Cape Liz over Seche Rebuild treatment and Butter London Nail Foundation basecoat with a generous topcoat of Poshe.

This is a polish that is right there with you, you don't have to live up to it. And yet it possesses an almost indescribable loveliness that is both calming and inspiring. Cape Liz is incredibly personable for such a demure color. The power of its composition lies in its intimacy, I think, in the way that beauty often simultaneously creates a deep sense of longing, an awe that fills and empties and fills again that part of the soul that accommodates such poignancy.

It just goes to show you, Eleanor, that drama exists even in the observation of things. Maybe especially so. Don't ever be afraid to let your mind wander, because as Buckaroo Banzai said, "no matter where you go... there you are."

Merry Christmas, Miss B!

love,
Aunt Liz
