Picture Polish Dorothy, Orbit and Tease

A three for one! I will show you three polishes in this post. They were made in Australia by a wonderful Aussie indie polish maker called Picture Polish. Picture Polish is beloved by polish enthusiasts for their beautifully formulated polishes and for their appreciation of and collaboration with the polish blogworld.

I am lucky enough to have four of their polishes. I did a post on Cosmos back in May, right before I came up for your birthday. Now I'm gonna show you the other three: Dorothy, Orbit and Tease.  All three are well-pigmented formulas packed within an inch of their lives with silvery microglitter.

With all of that microglitter, the formula for these three has a thick and full-bodied consistency. The good news is: they are all one coaters! That's right, you can get a nice opaque manicure with just one coat of any of these. I used one or two coats for the pictures, depending on how well the first coat went on. Even with a one coater, my skills are not always up for the job. I'll overwork a nail and leave a bald spot or ding the first coat, stuff like that.

The finish on these has a slightly gritty texture due to the microglitter but manages to be shiny anyway. You could easily wear them without a topcoat. I added one coat of Seche Vite, but you can still see the texture in person and in the pictures.

Let's start with Dorothy. Dorothy is a feisty bright cherry red with pink overtones. On the nail, oh it's just such a happy polish! Full of sparkly fun.

See what I mean by happy? I mean it's bouncy puppy happy! There's something very sweet  and heartwarming about it too. Like when someone you don't know holds the door open for you -- a kind gesture from a stranger. And it has a lightness to it on the nail that makes it feel perfectly suited for hot weather.

Orbit. Orbit is a deeply saturated but bright indigo blue, an imperial blue. With the silvery microglitter sparkling like crazy it's an absolute showstopper.

See now this one really can't be captured in a photograph. It looks too aloof and reserved in these pictures compared to what it's like in person. In person Orbit has tremendous stage presence, there is a profound theatrical energy to it that reminds me of the excitement and awe a really good marching band can generate when they're playing a really good song. The vivid imperial blue color and the sparkling silvery microglitter reinforce and magnify each other's presence in a way that is truly brilliant. As I said above, this one is a showstopper.

Tease. Tease is a bright gift-wrap-ribbon fuchsia. It seems more silvery to me than the other two -- I'm not sure if that's because the amount of silver microglitter is proportionately higher or if it's because the pigment plays differently with the microglitter or what. This one's an eyecatcher and a coquette. As with the other two, there's a whole lotta sparkle goin' on.

The photos for Tease were all taken outdoors right around sunset, with that color-enhancing light from low on the horizon. By this point I've got silver microglitter all over the place from removing the other two polishes.

That sunset light certainly does justice to a bright color, no? Fuchsia is one of those colors like kelly green that almost always feels excessive to me, but I can't help but make an exception for this polish. The fuchsia of Tease is sort of a hard candy color, if you know what I mean. Full of light. On the nail, it feels flirtatious and girly, but the girl is SMART! You better know what you're doing if you're gonna mess with HER. At the same time, Tease is not without a bit of Dorothy's sweetness. Like a smile that's closed-mouth but with all kinds of merriment and festivity behind it ready to burst into laughter.

Of course, a little butter on the fingers doesn't hurt!

She sends you whiskery kisses... sweet pup!

I hope you enjoyed this mammoth post. I did! I love all three of these sparkling polishes from Picture Polish. They are each stunning, kudos to those brilliant Aussie gals!

And kudos to you too, Eleanor, for making it through to the end!

love,
Aunt Liz
